Webster Bank has a USD 60+ billion balance sheet with several different business verticals. The Derivative Sales team is responsible for a number of different functions with regard to Derivatives, including not only marketing the Derivatives platform to Webster Bank commercial bank customers, prospects and COIs, but also working with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure that it can provide liquidity on its existing product set and to ensure it has a robust platform in order to service existing customers, to manage credit risk, to ensure desk activity complies with policies and procedures, that documentation requirements are met, necessary reporting is produced, external regulations are adhered to and along with all other desk activities that assist Sales team members on day to day activities.
This Middle Office role will sit within the Trading / Middle office function on the desk and will be responsible for various high-level activities mentioned above. The role will work very closely with our Counterparty Bank relationships, our Derivative Operations Team, our booking platform external vendor and various other internal stakeholders. The Derivatives Sales team aims to be forward looking, easy to work with, providing each of our customers with a customized service and bespoke offering that warrants an at or above ancillary share of their business. The role will assist the Sales team implementing this strategy while conducting business using the highest standards & values.
Responsibilities:
• Be well managed, have attention to detail, be motivated and proactive and have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
• Assist in managing Counterparty Bank relationships, including providing day to day collateral management for Counterparty Banks and customers
• Collect, review and sign customer and counterparty bank confirmations
• In relation to the existing Derivative book, have the ability to respond to existing Customer and Relationship Manager queries over the phone and via email including on MTM statements and payments etc.,
• Produce MIS for on the desk purposes and for various stakeholders to our business
• Prepare internal facing reporting for Credit, Regulatory purposes, ALCO, Treasury and other internal stakeholders
• Post daily indicative rates to internal SharePoint site in relation to our product set
• Take part in various middle office projects that will assist in the desk becoming more efficient
• Maintain and foster a collaborative approach to working with key internal stakeholders including the Treasury Operations team
• In line with desk policies and procedures, be able to onboard a client from a derivative opportunity perspective
• Enhance the Webster Bank customer experience over and above the outright lending experience
• Provide backup / support to Head of Trading / Middle Office on trade execution, including working with Treasury colleagues on B/S hedging
• From a dealing perspective, be able to structure, price, execute and book an interest rate derivative with a bank counterparty
• Be a team player, providing back up to other team members when required
• Adhere to internal policy & external regulations and keep up to speed on changes
Education, Skills & Experience:
• BS or advanced degree preferred
• 3+ years of interest rate derivative experience in a middle office role. Experience working with counterparty banks on trade execution would be beneficial
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as also as part of an overall team
• Have an understanding of financial instruments and capital markets with strong excel skills required. Familiarity with Bloomberg and/or other financial systems preferred
The estimated salary range for this position is $90,000 USD to $105,000 USD. Actual salary may vary up or down depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position is eligible for incentive compensation.
