Position Summary:

The SEC Reporting Accountant assists with the preparation of financial reporting for Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) (10-K, 10-Q, 11-K, 8-K, etc.) and other external filings (DOL, HUD, etc.). The position is also responsible for independently researching financial statement disclosure requirements in accordance with U.S. GAAP, SEC, and other reporting rules, and occasionally providing technical accounting support over business transactions. The ideal candidate should be digitally enabled and have experience working with automation, data workflow, and analytical tools.


Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with the filing of corporate financial statements with the SEC and other external parties, including the preparation of financial statements and related disclosures, earnings release, flux analyses, and completion of the U.S. GAAP checklist.
  2. Work to continuously improve the quality of financial statement disclosures by benchmarking against industry competitors.
  3. Independently research newly issued U.S. GAAP and SEC financial statement disclosure requirements and document technical accounting issues for management.
  4. Effectively communicate findings to management in a timely manner.
  5. Provide support to internal and external auditors and respond to their requests in a timely manner.
  6. Collaborate with others across the organization to identify opportunities and make process recommendations.
  7. Support an effective SOX control environment.
  8. Perform other duties, as assigned.

Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting. CPA is a plus.
  • A minimum of 2 years of related experience. Public accounting, audit, or financial services industry experience is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and research/benchmark to the competition.
  • Strong time management skills and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with preference to experience working with automation, data workflow, and analytical tools such as Workiva, Alteryx, or Tableau.
  • A willingness to learn and seek continuous improvement.
  • Availability to work extended hours during hours during financial closings and as business needs dictate.

Position can be based out of Waterbury, CT or Stamford, CT with expectation of periodic travel to alternative locations for team or business connections.
