Webster Bank is seeking a seasoned and strategic leader to join its Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) team as Managing Director - Risk Appetite & Reporting. This critical role will lead the design, execution, and continuous enhancement of the bank’s risk appetite framework and enterprise-level risk reporting.

The successful candidate will be responsible for execution and support of specific elements and ongoing refinement of the organization’s Enterprise Risk Management program including Risk Appetite and Reporting. Develops and operationalizes Risk Appetite framework and enterprise-level risk reporting.

This position plays a key proactive role in driving achievement of Webster’s strategic goals, objectives and priorities as aligned to those of Risk Management and the overall firm by applying a broad understanding of the overarching principles of Risk Management combined with strong knowledge of banking regulation and industry best practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Risk Appetite Program - Responsible for managing/enhancing Webster’s Risk Appetite Statement (RAS), executing Risk Appetite across Webster, guiding KRI development & implementation, establishing and maintaining processes for Risk Appetite monitoring and escalation leveraging systems and tools.

  • Enterprise Risk Reporting - Own and enhance enterprise-level risk reporting to the Board of Directors, Risk Committee, Executive Management, and regulators. Develop comprehensive risk dashboards, heatmaps, and narrative analyses that provide actionable insights and reflect the bank’s risk profile. Ensure reporting is forward-looking, risk-based, and connected to risk appetite, strategic objectives, and key risk indicators (KRIs). Lead efforts to enhance automation and data quality in risk reporting through collaboration with technology and data teams.

  • Maintains Risk Appetite and Reporting that reflect regulatory guidance and industry best practice.

  • Provides meaningful advice and solutions to the business on how to effectively operationalize Risk Appetite.

  • Interfaces with functional and department leaders, providing clear direction and strong program leadership using a "soft hand" approach.

  • Manages programs with companywide impact; evaluates courses of action within those projects or processes by applying understanding of business and risk management objectives to navigate through complex circumstances. Escalates potential obstacles and develops solutions.

  • Communicates across all levels of the organization and produces comprehensive executive level reports.

  • Leads and drives a high-performance team, acts as directive leader on providing inspiration, communicating focused objectives on achieving program goals. Exercises delegated authority of a department head concerning budget, staffing, performance appraisals, compensation recommendations, promotions, terminations, and other administrative matters.

Educations, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required, degree in Finance, Risk Management, Business, or a related field preferred. Professional certification is a plus.

  • 10+ years of experience in banking or financial industry preferred

  • Experience managing/ implementing Risk Appetite and Reporting

  • Strategic thinking and the ability to convert plans into action

  • Strong ability to operate in an environment of change

  • Proven leadership with strong focus on execution

  • Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to build and expand trusting relationships and partnerships

  • Ability to lead a high-performance team

  • Knowledge of banking regulations and branch operations

  • Results oriented with proven record of delivering high quality results to strict deadlines

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to synthesize and present complex information clearly.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with GRC platforms or data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is a plus.

The estimated base salary range for this position is $170,000 USD to $200,000 USD.  Actual salary may vary up or down depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position is eligible for incentive compensation.
