Team Leader Asset Based Lending.

This Managing Director-level position will lead one of Webster Asset Based Lending’s four portfolio management teams with the goal of providing an excellent, proactive client experience while ensuring safety and soundness for the bank.  The Team Leader is a senior ABL credit professional who enjoys client interaction, will directly manage a team of portfolio managers, be an integral member of the ABL management team and will be responsible for the team’s credit risk management, consistent with Webster’s Policies and procedures, of the ABL Client Portfolio while meeting client needs on a proactive basis.  The successful candidate will enjoy the management aspects of the position including training, development, and recruitment.  This position reports to the Head of ABL Portfolio Management.

In addition to strong leadership skills, the ideal candidate must possess excellent credit skills, expertise in Asset Based Lending, have a strong process orientation, a bias for action and be a true change agent, while consistently demonstrating the Webster values.

This is a hybrid position based in New York City.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead and manage a portfolio management team, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to team members.
  • Assist team members in providing proper credit structures to balance the credit appetite of the bank, and profitability hurdles with client requests.
  • Manage the workflow of the team, ensuring proactively handling client requests, quality and timeliness of all credit work product including addressing client requests, period credit reviews, reviews of all ABL diligence materials, and timely modification of credit risk ratings.
  • Monitor and analyze portfolio performance, identifying trends and recommending appropriate actions and escalating where appropriate.
  • Provide effective advocacy for deals during client meetings, credit approval discussions and engage in thoughtful and respectful discussions with business line and credit partners regarding deal structure, risks and mitigants.
  • Demonstrate effective coaching and mentoring to build upon team members’ skills and knowledge assuring appropriate habits and behaviors focusing on continuously improving the quality and consistency of the group’s underwriting, portfolio management and client coverage activities.   
  • Lead lender meetings on Webster agented transactions.
  • Attract, select, develop, and retain top talent while promoting and championing a diverse and inclusive culture.
  • Assure the credit work product, term sheets and underwriting documents meet all Bank policy and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Support a strong risk culture for Webster Bank by conducting day-to-day business in compliance with laws and regulations, internal policies and guidelines and proactively identifying, communicating, and addressing issues warranting attention.

Educations, Skills & Experience:

  • Comprehensive credit knowledge, ABL structuring skills and portfolio management expertise;
  • Asset-based lending experience, including a strong understanding of collateral, required;
  • Highly effective interpersonal & communication skills (verbal and written);
  • 10+ years banking experience; management experience a plus
  • Bachelors degree required, concentration in Finance or Accounting preferred;
  • MBA preferred
  • Formal Credit Training preferred

The estimated salary range for this position is $175,000 to $200,000. Actual salary may vary up or down depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position is eligible for incentive compensation.
