The MD, General Counsel for Ametros is primarily responsible for ensuring legal compliance and providing expert legal counsel, including but not limited to Medicare's secondary payer status in workers' compensation and liability settlements. This person serves as a key legal advisor to the enterprise and its business units, focusing on workers' compensation law, compliance, contract management, and Medicare-related legal matters.

This role involves conducting legal research, preparing/negotiating legal documents, representing the company in various legal settings, and providing guidance on compliance issues. The position requires strong leadership skills and the ability to manage complex legal projects while ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal representation, research, pleadings, motions, and trial briefs for Ametros and Webster Bank in court proceedings, arbitration, and administrative agencies relative to MSA’s or CMS related matters

  • Responsible for providing legal counsel relative to MSA (Medicare Set Aside) reporting, compliance, implementation, and negotiation of contracts

  • Provide legal guidance and advice on MSA processes, pricing, and submission requirements, to ensure compliance with MSP (Medicare Secondary Payer) regulations

  • Represent the organization in legal matters related to MSAs, including drafting/negotiating legal documents, advising on conditional payments, or CMS related matters that need resolution to assist Ametros or its members

  • Prepare, review, and negotiate contracts, including requests for proposals and other legal documents 

  • Assume responsibility for ensuring that the company conducts its business in compliance with applicable laws and regulations and in accordance with Ametros and Webster risk tolerances.

  • Provide subject matter expertise for the organization through written and verbal communications as well as through attending industry events

  • Other job functions/duties as determined by Webster Bank’s General Counsel

Education, Skills & Experience:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree and licensed to practice law within the United States

  • 7-10 years of providing legal services to relevant industries

  • Strong understanding of Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) laws and regulations

  • Exposure to or familiarity with the following areas of law: health care, PBMs, insurance, banking, employment, technology 

  • Experience with state pharmacy regulations, as well as PBM, PPO, medical equipment, and payer contract compliance 

  • Experience with CMS guidelines and regulations 

  • Cost effective management of outside legal resources

  • Ability to work cross-functionally and influence at all levels of the organization.

  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations applicable to the healthcare environment 

  • Ability to provide expert and strategic legal advice to management 

  • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills catered to a variety of audiences 

  • Excellent judgement and analytical skills 

  • High degree of professional ethics and integrity 

The estimated base salary range for this position is $200,000 USD to $240,000 USD.  Actual salary may vary up or down depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position is eligible for incentive compensation.
