The Managing Director, Segment Credit Officer manages the credit underwriting and portfolio management functions of the Equipment Finance LOB. This includes directly managing a staff of up to 5 credit risk professionals. The incumbent must exercise prudent judgement when approving credit exposures up to designated authority, while making sound recommendations to senior approvers when personal authority level is exceeded. He/she will also take ownership of the portfolio quality and be responsible for monitoring and management of existing credit exposures. The incumbent will be expected to provide strong leadership that facilitates a culture of continuous improvement.
People 30%
Provide leadership to Equipment Finance LOB and associated Credit Risk personnel. Develop and maintain strong lines of communication with LOB leaders and other key staff members. Directly manage up to 5 credit professionals, providing performance management and coaching. Develop strategic alliances with business leaders in EF to facilitate the growth plans for the business, as well as the safety and soundness of its credit portfolios.
Credit Approval 25%
Exercise prudent judgement when approving credit exposures up to designated authority, while making sound recommendations to senior approvers when personal authority level is exceeded. Support the lines of business and risk management objectives (risk appetite) through early read processes and timely decisioning of transaction requests. Engage in constructive dialog around risk tolerance and acceptable structures/profiles through pre-screens, engagement with LOB leaders and/or other forums.
Portfolio Quality 20%
Drive acceptable levels of Delinquency, NPA, Classified Assets, TDRs, Charge-offs in line with plan or in support of overall improved performance or lower cost (if no plan numbers).
Process / Culture 20%
Provide leadership that facilitates a culture of continuous improvement. Facilitate the integration of the legacy Webster and Sterling EF businesses. Direct and coordinate workflow of EF credit team to assure exceptional execution on new underwriting documents and periodic review memos. Participate/Lead project teams tasked with improving credit policies, procedures, underwriting & portfolio management standards and MIS reporting. Escalate process improvement opportunities and participate/lead as appropriate.
Compliance 5%
Support timely resolution of Regulatory (MRAs and targeted exams), CRR and/or Internal Audit Issues. Ensure potential compliance issues are raised in a timely manner and addressed effectively. Ensure adherence to credit risk and other business / accounting policies.
EXPERIENCE
- For this position, you must have at least 10 years of experience in Commercial Lending, specifically underwriting and managing large ticket exposures (> $10MM). Experience underwriting complex Large Corporate and Middle Market credits is highly desirable.
SPECIFIC JOB RELATED EDUCATION & SKILLS
- Candidates with advanced degrees (Associates, Bachelor’s, and/or Master’s) preferred, yet a High School diploma or GED is required. Candidates with some combination of coursework and experience, or else extensive related professional experience, are eligible for consideration.
- Strong working knowledge of all credit disciplines and portfolio risk management.
- Specific experience with middle market, cash flow, asset backed lending and leasing.
- Knowledge of banking regulations, lending policies, procedures and techniques and well-demonstrated understanding of loan risk factors.
- Exceptional leadership and organizational skills.
- Ability to multi-task and manage changing priorities.
The estimated salary range for this position is $180,000 to $200,000. Actual salary may vary up or down depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position is eligible for incentive compensation.
