The primary responsibility of the CRE underwriter / Director is to complete the credit analysis and underwriting of new commercial real estate loans. The role will require the individual to be comfortable with interacting directly with both senior managing directors / managing directors and clients. The role will require strong math, financial analysis, writing and organizational skills.
Responsibilities:
- Develop pre-read and formal deal screen memos for new lending opportunities with oversite from SMD/MD.
- Underwrite commercial loans within established timelines, to include application review, personal and business credit analysis, collateral analysis, and debt service analysis and related financial modeling.
- Decision loan requests in accordance with the bank’s loan policies and procedures, and directly engage with internal credit partners and external clients with oversite from MD/SMD.
- Limit risk through use of various credit enhancements where applicable with the assistance of SMD/Credit.
- Prepare term sheets and or commitment letters upon approval of loan request.
- Review draft loan documents for accuracy as compared to approvals.
- Assist all partners (closing, portfolio, deposit onboarding, middle office and portfolio management and operations) in the closing of commercial loans.
- Participate in projects that help improve and streamline the credit delivery process.
- Assist with credit review and audit preparation as required by the team and credit partners.
- Maintain organized credit files as loans transition from underwriting to portfolio management.
- Establish appropriate inputs and ticklers in Sage Works for all origination activity.
- Mentor and assist junior / analyst level underwriters within the team.
Education, Skills & Experience:
- Advanced degree - Associates, Bachelors, Masters, etc. (Bachelors)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced proficiently with financial modeling, excel, and Microsoft Word/PowerPoint.
- Analytical thinking, organization, and time management skills.
- Prior experience with commercial real estate loans 3-5 years (recommended)
The estimated salary range for this position is $130,000 USD to $140,000 USD. Actual salary may vary up or down depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position is eligible for incentive compensation.
