The primary role of the Credit Analyst is to support Senior Bankers in underwriting credit transactions and the ongoing monitoring of all credit aspects of a portfolio of middle market commercial banking relationships (i.e. relationships with businesses having revenues $30 million to $1B). This position is available due to strong growth in this market. This includes preparation of quarterly and annual credit reviews, monitoring covenant compliance, risk ratings and credit quality of the portfolio, meeting customer expectations and deadlines, and other activities in support of the region's overall goals.
You will be a partner to the portfolio and relationship managers to deliver the credit product to the clients, while balancing the appropriate risk and reward to the Bank, always with an eye toward safety and soundness.
This is a developmental position whereby the right candidate will be given informal training and will be expected to take on additional responsibilities over time. It is expected that the analyst will be able to assume most of the portfolio management responsibilities on their own portfolio of relationships within 18-36 months, depending on performance. The expected career path for a strong performer who has developed sufficient expertise in credit and commercial lending can be promotion either through the portfolio management channel or through the banker/relationship manager channel.
This position will report to a Senior Portfolio Manager. Responsibilities will include interfacing with customers, all levels of management, staff and product specialists and will require acting with a sense of urgency to meet deadlines and meet or exceed client expectations. The successful candidates will possess excellent analytic, written communication, strong modeling skills using Excel, and have earned solid grades in Accounting coursework.

Responsibilities include:
  • Reviewing and spreading financial statements using the bank's spreading and financial analysis tools.
  • Performing sensitivity analysis and modeling of projected cash flows using Excel.
  • Assist in drafting credit approval documents, periodic credit reviews and credit actions, and other credit related work product. Over time it is expected that the analyst will be able to generate some of this work product independently.
  • Review, spread and analyze borrowing base certificates, receivables agings and other reporting.
  • Calculate and analyze compliance with financial covenants.
  • Conduct industry or sector analysis.
  • Participate in the preparation and review of commitment letters and legal documentation.
  • Support the maintenance of credit files consistent with credit policy, and integrity of the bank's data systems.
  • Interface with clients and other banks to facilitate ongoing monitoring of credit quality.
  • Participate in prospect and customer calls and bank meetings as appropriate.
  • Participate in special projects on an as-needed basis.

Requirements/Job Skills/Knowledge:
  • Education - BS in Finance or Accounting required. Minimum GPA of 3.2.
  • Experience - This is an entry level position, however professional or extracurricular experience demonstrating an understanding of and familiarity with banking and finance is a plus.
  • Excellent analytic skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong Excel and Powerpoint skills are required. Experience with financial modeling is highly desired.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to interface with relationship managers, portfolio managers, credit officers, clients and senior management.
  • Ability to work independently and on multiple projects with different members of the business unit simultaneously.
