Under the general supervision of a Senior Managing Director, Associate General Counsel II (SMD), the commercial paralegal will provide legal support to the Commercial Bank and Business Credit Center Lines of Business including loan, deposit and derivatives, as well as assist the SMD with assigned functions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is responsible for providing legal support to the Commercial Bank Lines of Business and Business Credit Center regarding loan, deposit and derivative products as well as assist the SMD with assigned functions including:
Review requests related to standard bank forms such as: DACA requests that contain exceptions to standard terms, interface with Treasury Management regarding appropriate peg balances as well as DACA termination notifications; Review NDA requests that contain exceptions to standard terms; and Risk Participation Agreements with swap banks.
Third Party Environmental Phase I review and administration of Collateral 360 database including vendor management and ordering environmental reports.
Vendor management of commercial law firms that are approved for Bank’s use as well as producing ongoing vendor score cards to be used in assessing individual law firms.
Assist Business Credit Center with legal reviews related to: SNDA, trusts, title and code violations, UCC filing and other commercial loan closing related legal questions.
Review legal invoices submitted by outside counsel to ensure compliance with Webster legal billing requirements as well as financial accounting guidelines.
In addition to the above Key Responsibilities, the ideal candidate is someone who has the capability to grow to become a trusted advisor to various Lines of Business within the Commercial Bank.
REQUIREMENTS
Candidates with advanced degrees (Associates or Bachelor’s) preferred, yet a High School diploma or GED is required. Candidates with some combination of coursework and experience, or extensive related professional experience are eligible for consideration.
Five years of relevant experience related to commercial loan closing or portfolio management required
Paralegal certificate required
Self-motivated, highly organized and detail-oriented; must have the ability to work independently
Critical thinking, evaluation and analytical skills
Strong time management skills and multi-tasking ability
Strong verbal and written communication skills
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft products, including Excel and Word, Adobe PDF, Westlaw, Docusign and ability to interact with internal colleagues and outside counsel in a professional manner.
The estimated base salary range for this position is $35.00 per hour to $45.00 per hour. Actual salary may vary up or down depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position is eligible for incentive compensation.
