I.  POSITION SUMMARY

Describe the basic function or purpose of this job - Why does the job exist?

  • Directly responsible for the integrity of the loan closing process, due diligence, loan documentation, compliance, and funding, to ensure the deal conforms to credit approval, policies and business requirements
  • Manages the closing portfolio for the assigned Business Banking segment, proactively engaging with deal team, communicating, collaborating, and prioritizing
  • Responsible for delivering an outstanding experience to customers and business partners, while carrying out sound risk management practices, within a dynamic business development environment.
  • Serves as a liaison with internal and external parties including title companies, outside and in-house counsel, operations, and risk

 

 

 

Management Level Description:

Has company-wide responsibility for a single function or department-wide responsibility for multiple functions that are homogeneous in nature.  Will have multiple direct reports that are managers, supervisors or high-level individual contributors.  Number of direct/indirect reports will be driven by the staffing needs of the function, however, in general the total direct/indirect reports should exceed 15 with at least 3 direct reports that are each responsible for one of the multiple functions.  Products/services/deliverables of the department are provided in direct support of a specific business unit or the entire enterprise.

 

 

II. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES

  1. Manage the workflow and closing processes ensuring turn around based on Webster standards.
  2. Respond to any adverse conditions that would impact the pipeline and customer response/service.
  3. Troubleshoot problem loans or issues and achieve resolution among all involved parties.
  4. Monitor compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements.
  5. Work closely with Operations and Underwriting Managers to ensure a smooth flow of files to closing.
  6. Act as a liaison between investors, insurance companies, and sales staff regarding workflow and closing issues.
  7. Approve loan conditions and underwrite loans as necessary.
  8. Assist with the ongoing monitoring and management of loan collateral ad security, including insurance coverages, bi-annual real estate tax payment, UCC Filings, deposit account verifications, etc.
  9. Prepare closing packages, including checklists, and disbursement requests and funding directions.
  10. Ensure that all required documents are obtained pre- and post-closing and appropriately maintained.
  11. Assist with coordinating transitions between loan origination and underwriting approval and commitment.
  12. Recruit, hire, train, lead and manage daily activities of all closers.
  13. Resolve, escalate and remedy all issues in a professional manner.
  14. Review flood and hazard insurance.

 

III. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

Indicate the education level, previous experience, specific knowledge, skills and abilities required to meet the minimum entry-level requirements for this position.  This may include special skills, licenses, certificates, etc. 

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 9+ years experience in banking/financial environment at least 4 of which were in a supervisory capacity.
  • Advanced knowledge of closing and funding conventional, government, and consumer loans.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail a must.
  • Ability to interface with all levels of management.
  • Superior communication and problem solving skills required.
